NFPA 285 Fire propagation characteristics of exterior wall assemblies, compustible components
NFPA 285 is a code written by the National Association of Fire Protection related to the Fire Propagation Characteristics of Non-Loading Bearing Wall Assemblies Containing Combustible Components.
As it relates to Exterior Metal Wall Panels & the Aria Wall Panel System this means that any component cladding or framing materials that are used require an NFPA 285 test. It should be understood that if such materials pass NFPA 285 testing that the materials will still combust, it just will happen after a longer burn rate.
BUNTING RECOMMENDS USING PLATE MATERIALS IN LIEU OF COMPOSITE MATERIALS TO AVOID NFPA 285.
Aluminum Composite Materials (ACM) or Metal Composite Material (MCM) [Series 'A'] both contain plastics in the core of the panel which make the panels combustible materials.
By utilizing Aluminum Plate (Aria Series 'B', 'C', or 'D') all combustible materials are removed from the Wall Panel System and as such there is no NFPA 285 Requirements as the Aria Wall Panel System when used with Aluminum Plate Materials Do NOT contain combustible components.
